Charles Austin Miles estudou Farmácia na Filadélfia, e, quando já era farmacêutico, ele abriu uma farmácia em Camden, no Estado de Nova Jersey.  

A composição mais famosa de Charles Austin Miles é o hino "Que doce voz tem  meu Senhor..." (I come to the garden alone).
